Week 8 – Technical: Zoom Burst

By changing the focal length during long exposure you can add movement to your frame, producing leading lines within your frame.

This is one my favorite techniques to make quite a unique photo. Fortunately we were traveling and so around “night lights.” Unfortunately, my cheap travel tripod was NOT up to the task! All these pictures were either handheld or braced on something! I was pretty proud of being able to get half-way decent photos like that!

This shot was a try at getting some distortion with a day-time shot on shot shutter speed with an ND filter.

The McDonalds across the street zoomed while the shutter was open.

We were staying at the Hollister Inn, so it was perfect that I try this technique on its sign!
