Even though Richard and I have been to Santa Cruz several times, somehow we’ve missed this bit of the western coast where this lovely Natural Bridge is! So, here’s some pictures of it, the lighthouse, and also some surfers. Some of the pictures are also with a slow shutter speed to blur the waves.
Our first stop was our favorite beach just south of San Francisco, Bean Hollow State Beach. It’s also a free beach, so that’s another reason we like it!
First I tried using my new ND (dark) filter and slow shutter speeds to blur our the waves. Then I shot some more traditional shots. Thanks to Richard for the shot of me!
It was COLD today, but I had to go outside and take some pictures in the snow and sunshine anyway. The birds were so hungry they didn’t mind me taking their picture. I got several nice “flying bird” pictures this time.
Today it snowed some off and on and was a rather cold and dreary day. However, there was one point when it was snowing more heavily and I just had to grab my camera and head out. The first photos are manual focus with the background purposefully out of focus and the snowflakes in focus. Then I thought I’d check out the icicles on the lower barn, and found them melting fast. I love trying to capture drops, and there were lots to get both in focus and out of focus.
We saw the signs to this Garden several days ago and finally had a chance to visit it this nice day. Click here for more information about the garden.
This morning I had to dash out and take some photos of the sunrise even though it was pretty cool! It was worth it though.
We had a 1.5 inch snow overnight and the morning dawned sunny. I found lots of great photo opportunities!
It was a lovely afternoon, and we knew the weather was going to turn cold, so we were out enjoying it to the fullest. As I started taking photos of the birds at the feeder, I noticed the back-light from the sun really highlighted the birds! I took a bunch of photos trying to get ones of birds in flight, but that was really difficult. Here are my best shots from that try.
And here’s the photos from our morning on the beach before we headed to work. It really is a very nice place to visit when it’s cold up north!
We left a day early so we could spend a relaxing day on the beach at South Padre Island. Neither of us had been there before, and we loved it! We had thought November and December would be busy times there, but it was not! We hope to go back there again.
